Turkey’s 4th, and 70th in the world, ” Earth Market’ established in Tarsus. Following the approval of the International Slow Food Community, a protocol was signed with the cooperation of various institutions under the leadership of Tarsus Slow Food to establish the Earth Market.
The producers at an Earth Market can only sell products they have grown, raised, harvested, caught, preserved or transformed themselves: traders, refiners and selectors are excluded. Producers must be personally present at the Earth Markets or represented by members of their family and staff at their farm or business who are directly involved in the production process.
Tarsus Municipality, Tarsus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tarsus Commodity Exchange and Tarsus Chamber of Agriculture came together under the leadership of Tarsus Slow Food, and the protocol of the Tarsus Earth Market was signed.
Protocol signing ceremony held in Tarsus Municipality with the participants as : the Mayor of Tarsus Dr. Haluk Bozdoğan, President of Tarsus Chamber of Commerce and Industry H. Ruhi Koçak, Vice President of Tarsus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Fuat Togo, President of Tarsus Chamber of Agriculture Veyis Avcı, Tarsus Commodity Exchange Assembly Vice President Fatma Temel and Tarsus Slow Food Leader Yasmina Lokmanoğlu.
At the ceremony, the Tarsus Earth Market declaration was read by Lokmanoğlu and the protocol was sent to Italy for the approval of the Slow Food International, if accepted by the International Slow Food Community Tarsus Earth Market will be the 4th one in Turkey. Tarsus and region-specific flavors will be introduced to consumers in the Tarsus Earth Market, which is expected to be established in front of the historical Kubat Pasha Madrasa. Tarsus Earth Market aims to promote the city and the region in the international arena.
